The Opportunity

The Rahman-Marshall Scholarship is an academic research scholarship for Pakistani students. It will connect passionate, self-starting, and talented Undergraduate/High-School sudents to Professors and PhD students at U.S. Colleges. These students will then work closely with their mentor throughout the summer. In this time, the students will be supported to complete a rigorous research project (modeled after REUs).

Our Philosophy

Our goals are two-fold, to promote academic research and enable students to become future academicians in Pakistan. For the first, we document and advertise this opportunity and its result to schools in Pakistan. For the second, we start by selecting students who are academically talented, passionate, and self-starting. These are encapsulated in our eligibility criteria and application process. We then provide the selected scholars with the continual support they need to produce a rigorous, well-thought out research project.

The People

Professors, PhD students, undergraduate and high-school students motivated to research participate in this program as mentors, mentees, and organizers and are central to our success. Previous recipients of this scholarship have gone to study in R1 colleges (fully-funded) or continue academic research in Pakistani universities. For a list of mentors and mentees, kindly look at past scholars. This scholarship was started by a Pakistani student in Franklin & Marshall College, motivated by the chronic lack of research opportunity for students in Pakistan.

Eligibility

1. Residing in Pakistan
2. In Undergraduate program or 1st year of A-Levels (or equivalent high-school system)
3. Minimum of 4 A* or 6 A in O-Levels (or equivalent, see document on application page)
4. Available to work in the summer on academic research, producing a publication and presentation.
